Dr Kym Jansen
Obstetrician/Gynaecologist MBBS, FRANZCOG
Kym is a member of the Women’s Obstetric & Gynaecology Specialists.
With more than 20 years’ experience as a specialist obstetrician and gynaecologist, Dr Kym Jansen remains as passionate and enthusiastic about her profession as she was on day one – and it shows in every aspect of her work. Kym prides herself on developing a holistic relationship with her patients, ensuring that each one receives exactly the kind of personalised care they need, every step of the way. Her approach is to focus on positive physical and psychological health before, during and after pregnancy.
A highly regarded gynaecological surgeon, Kym is the Clinical Lead in Gynaecology at the Royal Women’s Hospital, a position she has held since 2017. Prior to this, she was the co-ordinator of specialist training at The Women’s, and she continues to have a strong involvement in the training and wellbeing of trainee specialists.
Kym holds numerous leadership positions. She is currently on the Medical Advisory Committee for Frances Perry House, and was previously chair of the RANZCOG training committee. She has presented at many conferences and is well respected by her colleagues, not only for her breadth of knowledge and experience, but also for her kind and friendly nature.
Kym cares for patients at Frances Perry House alongside her colleagues Dr Jenny Dowd, Dr Pip Costley, Dr Khai Mohamed-Noor and Dr Renee Wong, as part of Women’s Obstetric and Gynaecology Specialists.
Women’s Obstetric and Gynaecology Specialists (WOGS) is the only obstetric group practice co-located on site at The Women’s Hospital and Frances Perry House. Together, the five female specialists provide the highest level of obstetric and gynaecology care 24 hours a day. Patients are delivered exclusively at Frances Perry House, which means that they all have access to the full range of specialist and emergency services should the need arise.
Kym is dedicated to helping the broader community. She is one of the lead doctors in a team of specialists and nurses who regularly travel to Mongolia, a country with limited resources, to provide surgical training and support to doctors there. Since her first trip 12 years ago, she has played an important part in improving women’s health care there, in particular the accessibility of laparoscopic gynaecological surgery. Going to Mongolia always challenges her and informs her global perspective of women’s health. Each time she returns home, her appreciation of the medical care available in Australia is renewed.
Kym has two adult children who are finding their independence away from the family nest. This gives her more time for training for and running marathons, and going for long walks with her husband and two dogs.
